in march 2012, both gq and esquire published longform articles about a suicide/animal massacre in zanesville, ohio. both articles started with the same anecdote, but after that they veered wildly from a structural perspective: the esquire article focuses on the events of the day and night when all the animals were shot, but the gq piece is more far-reaching, exploring both the subculture of exotic animal ownership and the life of the man who unleashed his own pets before killing himself. both pieces are quite good! i examined both articles' content/structure, then used word counts to calculate the size of each category's portion of the graphic. (it was a fun, nerdy night, itellyouwhat.)
