Women of Frozen Pizza History: Rose Totino

In the early months of the pandemic, Lizzy Johnston, Linda McNeil, and Austin L. Ray published a delightful zine called Eating Our Feelings. The project raised over $7,000 for Giving Kitchen, an Atlanta non-profit that supports food workers in crisis.

I was delighted to contribute a comic tribute to the first woman inducted in the Frozen Food Hall of Fame, Rose Totino. (Yes, that Totino.)

Massive credit to Linda Rodriguez McRobbie’s great Rose Totino profile in Mental Floss. And a Rose Totino anecdote from another great read that I wasn’t able to work in:

Delivering the invocation at the 1980 Pillsbury annual meeting, Totino praised the Lord for nearly five minutes before stepping away and then abruptly returning to the lectern: “Oh, and Lord, I forgot to thank you for crisp crust.”
